Many adult patients assume that their age prevents them from qualifying for orthodontic treatment. In addition, teenage patients assume that the only orthodontics available to them are traditional metal braces. ClearCorrect aligners are a revolutionary new way to straighten your smile, and can be used for both teens and adults alike. If you want a more aesthetically pleasing smile, take a moment to explore this treatment with us at below.
What is ClearCorrect?
ClearCorrect is an orthodontic treatment that does away with the traditional metal brackets, and instead utilizes clear, plastic trays to shift your teeth. These trays are molded to your smile, and each set of them is a new milestone on your treatment path. As you go through each set of trays, your smile will gradually start to straighten. If the thought of traditional metal braces seems unappealing to you, take a look below at a comparison to ClearCorrect.
ClearCorrect vs Traditional Braces
There are three big factors that patients take into account when choosing their orthodontic treatment: how they will eat, how it will feel, and how long it will take:
With metal braces, there are certain foods that are restricted, as they could damage the wires or brackets. These restrictions include gummy substances, chewy candy, crunchy food, soda, and other textured food or drinks.
With ClearCorrect, these restricted foods can be enjoyed! The plastic trays are removable, and are actually meant to be removed anytime you eat. Once you’re finished, you simply place the trays back into your mouth.
Some patients have complained about how the metal brackets and wires sometimes catch their cheeks or lips, causing them to get stuck momentarily or leave tiny cuts and abrasions. Wearing braces can also make it difficult to play contact sports or musical wind instruments, though it’s still possible to do these activities with braces on.
Since ClearCorrect is molded to your teeth, the aligners actually lie flat against your teeth to remain virtually invisible. This also reduces any friction or protrusions, so you can still smile normally and go through your routine and activities without interference.
This is a category that braces and ClearCorrect may be even, as treatment time depends largely on the patient’s condition, complexity of the case, and the patient’s commitment to follow the provider’s instructions.
Typically, sets of ClearCorrect aligners are swapped out for the next set every two weeks or so, whereas braces are tightened at least once a month. But ClearCorrect patients must be responsible for keeping their aligners in for at least 22 hours a day (removing them only for mealtimes or special occasions), in order to finish their treatment on time.
The ClearCorrect Process
The ClearCorrect process is actually very simple and non-intrusive. Using a 3D scan and intraoral camera, Dr. Kovacevic will take scans of your jaw and teeth. Using these scans, he can better determine the paths that each tooth must take in order to be properly positioned. Once this treatment “map” has been completed, it will be split into sets of aligners that each pinpoint a milestone on the treatment path. As patients go through each set of aligners, their teeth gradually move into proper place.
Throughout this treatment time, patients can easily continue their normal activities. The only real changes are in their hygiene routines, as their teeth must be thoroughly cleaned before placing aligners back in after a meal. Without this level of cleanliness, the aligners can become discolored from plaque, losing their transparency and making it obvious that patients are wearing them.
